A short summary of your project
The TCU Sailing Club is looking to attend as many regattas as possible in the spring semester. For each regatta, we will need funds for travel and hotel rooms. In addition, there is a one-time enrollment fee which will allow us to attend any of the regattas in our league. We are hoping to raise enough money to be able to participate in at least two regattas this semester.
Who are you?
Hello! My name is Theresa Khoury and I currently serve as the vice president of the TCU Sailing Club. I hope to have the opportunity to compete in as many regattas as possible before I graduate in May.
I am a senior at TCU and I have had the opportunity to be with this club since the very start. We were founded in 2019, so as a sophomore, I was one of the original members. I had never sailed before, but the previous president welcomed me to the sport and taught me to love it.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of our club has faced some setbacks. Although this is my third year on the team, I have not had the opportunity to race in a collegiate regatta. Our team has raced in fundamental regattas against each other, as well as a local high school in the area (Nolan Catholic). Being able to race was an amazing opportunity, so I am eager to try it on a more competitive level. With the appropriate funds, the club will be able to travel to regattas and elevate the sailing experience for all of our members.
Being part of the Sailing Club has shaped my TCU experience by allowing me to meet people in a new environment that promotes teamwork and communication. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the team and I am excited to represent TCU in the collegiate sailing community.
Where will the money go?
We are planning to attend two regattas this semester: one local and one travel. The travel regatta will be at Tulane in New Orleans on April 9-10. This regional regatta would be a wonderful opportunity for our team to compete and interact with almost all of the SEISA teams. Traveling to New Orleans will be our biggest expense this semester, so we are hoping to raise enough money to get us there.
Our total fundraising goal is $3,400. The breakdown of the funds we hope to receive is as follows:
- SEISA Regatta Fee - $300
- Tulane Regatta - $2,600
-- Each Regatta - $2000 (flight) + $600 (Hotel Rooms)
- TCU Pinnies (Jerseys) - $500
