Hello!
We are the student-led TCU Mock Trial Team! The 2022-2023 school year will be our second year as an official TCU organization, and we are looking forward to the growth from year one to year two. In our first year, we were able to take two teams to the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament and secure the TCU New Student Organization of the Year 2021 award at the conclusion of our season. Entering into our second year, we have higher aspirations and bigger goals. We would like to attend multiple tournaments, as many other teams do, in order to gain a leg up on the competition. Practice makes perfect!
We believe this team is incredibly important as it gives students the opportunity to experience what a career in law looks like. It offers students vital information about professionalism and courtroom procedures, as well as builds leadership skills and confidence. Not only does this team strengthen TCU's academic profile, it prepares students for the workforce and contributes to a mature and helpful campus culture.
Our officer panel includes Walter Flanagin (President), Sophia Smith (Vice President), Brylee Brandt (Treasurer), Chloe Nutall (Secretary), Laney Adkins (Social Media Coordinator), Emma Watson (Tournament Chair), Beth Anthony and Mckayla Pratt (New Member Educators), and Aislin Tomasik (Witness Educator).
Members of this team and our advisor, Michele Meitl, are grateful for any financial support by fellow Horned Frogs and the greater community. Your tax-deductible donation will have an immediate and meaningful impact on the team’s success.
Don't forget to check out our rewards for donating which include a hand-written thank you note, a shout-out post on our Instagram account, an invitation to attend one of our practices, etc.
Also, if a monetary contribution isn't in the cards, please know you can still support our team by sharing our project to other people you know as well as on social media. Any support is extremely appreciated!
Budget breakdown
The cost of the case problem packet in Fall 2021 was $450. That amount may increase slightly. The cost of registering a team in Fall 2021 was $125 per team, and we had two teams. That cost may increase slightly. AMTA sets the costs for the case file packet and registration. We anticipate about $700 - $800 for these fees. Invitational (practice) tournament registration fees typically are around $200. We hope to attend two this year, therefore putting our invitational tournament registration fees around $400.
Most of the remaining funds will be used to provide transportation and lodging for members and team coaches during tournament weekends. Our rough estimate is to have approximately 20-30 members and 1-2 coaches. This creates the need for approximately 20 or more hotel rooms for one tournament weekend (1-2 nights, depending on the location). We estimate the cost of a hotel room around $200 or more per night, depending on where the tournament is held. We anticipate about $4,000 for each tournament. Our goal is to attend one or more practice tournaments and the AMTA regional tournament, which is $8,000 for registration, travel and lodging. If the team advances beyond the regional tournament, remaining funds will be used to attend the next round of competition or applied to team expenses next year. Thank you in advance for your support!
