Help fund the 2023 Theatre Class as they create video and live industry showcases!

A short summary of your project

The Senior Class of Theatre TCU needs financial assistance in funding their Senior Showcase. In the Fall Semester, the Showcase class films material suitable for theatrical and film auditions that will help to market their skills to professionals in the industry. This material can be added to the student's websites and social media as well as be sent to interested casting directors and agents. Another essential part of Showcase season is the DFW showcase where students perform scenes, songs and dances for local directors, choreographers, agents and casting teams. During Spring Break, the class takes a trip to NYC in order to showcase their talents and take workshops with top industry agents and casting directors in hope of securing representation and work. It is essential that this class experience these valuable and career enhancing traditions.

Who are you?

We are Theatre TCU's Showcase class, comprised of two professors, Penny Maas and Alan Shorter, as well as seniors from the BFA Acting, BFA Musical Theatre, BFA Theatre Studies and BA Theatre majors.

Your story

Since 2014, the Theatre TCU BFA Musical Theatre and Acting majors have been journeying to New York City over Spring Break to step in to the professional world of theater. During this trip they take workshops with top casting directors, getting feedback on their audition material and learning valuable industry skills, as well as performing in several showcases for agents and other industry professionals in hopes of landing representation or auditions. Our reputation is growing quickly in NYC and these trips are helping many students each year to begin their careers with connections and representation.

Due to the pandemic, the Showcase Class of 2020 pivoted the traditional live showcase into a video that was sent to industry professionals all over the country. Supplying this digital content is becoming a standard part of a young actor's toolkit and something our alumni have credited to their landing roles and representation.

With the limited resources of these 4th year students, it is essential that we get some backing to help offset the various expenses that this class incurs. Hiring a professional videographer and editor is an essential part of the fall semester and finding venues for the live showcases in the spring can also be a financial challenge. These students look forward to the capstone trip to NYC, but flights and hotels are expensive plus the costs of securing casting directors for the workshops can be prohibitive to students. We really look forward to giving these students the same opportunity that the students before them experienced.

Where will the money go?

The funding will support the expenses of the Showcase Season including filming and editing the digital material, venue rentals in DFW and NYC for live Showcases, workshops in NYC, plus flights and hotel rooms.

Any additional funds, beyond our goal, will be used to help students see Broadway shows (currently at the student's expense).

Some examples of where the money will go specifically:

Filming and Editing Digital Showcase Material:

Venue for Showcases (one day): $1,600

Workshops:

Flights: $5,400

Hotels: $10,000
