Jay Cohen ’73 has committed a $5,000 challenge gift to the Mary Couts Burnett Library this TCU Gives Day. 

Jay’s career has spanned public service and law. He served 24 years on active duty as a Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force, where his work included employment litigation and appellate criminal cases. He later joined the New York City Law Department, where he became Deputy Chief of the World Trade Center Litigation Unit and oversaw the defense of major property damage and toxic tort litigation tied to the September 11th attacks. After that, Jay served as an administrative law judge with the Social Security Administration, deciding disability claims and later leading the national union representing Social Security judges. He now practices law in the Long Island office of his firm.

When asked why he chose to support the library, Jay pointed to a simple reason.

“My giving is inspired by the many hours spent in the library during my time at TCU,” he said. Jay’s gift reflects a direct connection between his time at TCU and the work that followed. This TCU Gives Day, join Jay in supporting the Mary Couts Burnett Library.
